Today's riddle: Why did the girl pig break up with the boy pig? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. A multimillion-dollar revamp is slated for Michigan Avenue and the city wants public input (wkbw.com) — Buffalo is planning a multimillion-dollar redesign of Michigan Avenue from the Buffalo River to East North Street, and residents are being asked to weigh in through an online city survey. With limited space forcing tradeoffs between bike lanes, parking, and turn lanes, your feedback will help shape safety improvements and traffic calming measures before construction begins in 2028.
2. Seneca Nation members rally, vow 5 Miami Street gas station project will move forward (wkbw.com) — In downtown Buffalo, Seneca Nation members rallied in Niagara Square to defend their planned Seneca One Stop gas station at 5 Miami Street, despite Mayor Sean Ryan's move to halt a sewer connection permit. Nation leaders frame the conflict as a land and sovereignty issue, while local supporters say the project can still become an attractive addition along the Buffalo River waterfront.
3. Buffalo-area pay growth leads major U.S. metros, ADP report finds (wkbw.com) — Workers in the Buffalo metro are seeing overall pay grow faster than in any other major U.S. city, with gross earnings up 6.5% over the past year and outpacing inflation. Base pay is rising more slowly, but still slightly ahead of the national average, as local employers compete hard for talent and job changers drive much of the wage gains.
4. Ethics complaint filed against County Legislator Jeanne Vinal (wivb.com) — An Erie County resident has filed an ethics complaint against County Legislator Jeanne Vinal, with local Republican leaders outlining their concerns at a Buffalo press conference. Vinal strongly denies any unethical conduct, saying her conversations about party leadership roles were internal Democratic committee negotiations, not trades for her legislative vote. The county ethics board will now decide whether to investigate further.
5. Proposed Amherst 2027 budget includes 6.9% tax levy increase (wivb.com) — Amherst's proposed 2027 budget would raise the town tax levy by 6.9%, adding about $150 a year for a median-priced home, according to a SUNY Buffalo economist. Town officials say the hike is needed to keep up with inflation and operating costs, while residents worry about tighter household budgets. Public hearings later this month will let you weigh in on the plan.
