Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Buffalo teacher fights back against plan to close Riverside High School (wkbw.com) — A longtime Riverside High School teacher in Buffalo is challenging the district's plan to close the school and relocate Da Vinci and Research Lab students into the building. He and union leaders warn the proposal, which includes cutting more than 100 positions, could undermine recent gains in safety and academics as public hearings and a school board decision approach.
2. BPS superintendent defends proposed school closures as PS 33 families push back (wkbw.com) — Buffalo families at PS 33 are mobilizing to save one of the district's few bilingual schools from a proposed closure tied to a wider consolidation plan. District leaders say shrinking enrollment and aging buildings demand change, projecting $24 million in savings, while upcoming community meetings and a school board vote will determine PS 33's future.
3. Masten District Brunch And Wellness Fair In Buffalo (wblk.com) — Buffalo residents are invited to Saturday's Masten District Stakeholders Brunch and Wellness Fair at the Delavan Grider Community Center, featuring local health organizations and neighborhood updates. Another event on October 15 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church will walk voters through proposed City of Buffalo Charter amendments on the November ballot so you can head to the polls better informed and more engaged.
4. Giants legend Harry Carson shares prostate cancer journey, urges men to get screened (wgrz.com) — Hall of Famer Harry Carson is in Buffalo at Roswell Park, sharing his prostate cancer journey and urging local men—especially men of color—to get screened regularly. His visit, alongside Thurman Thomas and in recognition of Booker Edgerson's advocacy, highlights Western New York's role in advancing prostate cancer awareness, early detection, and community conversations about men's health.
5. Langworthy, Gies face off in first and only televised debate (wkbw.com) — Voters in and around Buffalo's media market are getting their first look at how Rep. Nick Langworthy and challenger Aaron Gies differ on costs, energy, healthcare, immigration, and the war in Iran, even though their debate aired from Elmira. With most district voters in this region, both candidates will appear separately on 7 News before Election Day.
