Bushwick Checks Cashed Shooter Charged With Murder, Police Say

Efrain Rivera has been charged with murder for shooting Shaheem Bernard inside CFSC Check Cashed in Bushwick on Friday, police said.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — Police have arrested the gunman who fatally shot a man in the leg inside a Bushwick check cashing hub on Friday, police said.

Efrain Rivera pulled out a 9-millimeter gun and shot Shaheem Bernard, 20, inside CFSC Check Cashed on Broadway between Fayette Street and Sumner Place around 1 p.m., police said.

Emergency responders rushed Bernard to Kings County Hospital but doctors were unable to save his life, said police.

Police arrested Rivera on Friday and charged him with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, said police.

Efrain was arraigned in Brooklyn criminal court on Saturday and was held without bail, court records show.
