$3 Specialty Coffee Is Back In Brooklyn
Light Switch opened Tuesday, serving specialty coffee, sandwiches and pastries by day, then wine, spritzes and small plates at night.
CARROLL GARDENS-COBBLE HILL— Light Switch, a coffee shop and wine bar, opened Tuesday at 333 Court St. in Carroll Gardens, occupying the former Brooklyn Strategist space.
The restaurant is the first project from Park Slope native Henry Cummings, 32, and Mark Thomas, 42, a former vice president at Pret a Manger whose parents were hoteliers in England.
The restaurant also partnered with Emma’s Torch, a local nonprofit that trains immigrants and asylum seekers for careers in hospitality.

The day begins with Mille-Feuille pastries and coffee from Red Hook roaster Abbotsford Coffee.
Customers who bring their own mugs receive a 33.3 percent discount.

By lunch, the menu shifts to baguette sandwiches, quiche and salads.
The sandwiches include:
- Brie with hot pepper jam
- Ham and fontina with cornichons, butter and Dijonaisse
- Soppressata with Manchego, romesco and arugula
At 5 p.m., the coffee program gives way to wine, craft beer, nonalcoholic cocktails and spritzes.
The food menu expands to charcuterie, cheeses and small plates, including:
- Whipped ricotta bruschetta with prosciutto, melon and mint
- Fennel salad
- Spiced eggplant and labne dip
- Romesco dip
- Tahini topped with roasted tomatoes
- German-style fondue with prosciutto, cornichons and bread
The restaurant will offer three red wines, three whites, rosé and sparkling wine— priced from $12 to $16 per glass.
The backyard, barroom and Snug are available for private events.
Light Switch's hours:
- Monday through Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, with Thursday hours extending to 11 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday mornings: 8 a.m.
- Friday and Saturday nights: Open until midnight.
