Black Gold, No Longer a Hidden Gem

The record, coffee and antique curiosity shop gets a national shout out.

Court Street’s , an emporium of vintage wares and tunes (and coffee!) earned a shout out from the New York Times yesterday, calling it a “curious hole-in-the-wall hybrid.”

The shop sells obscure and hard-to-find records, which can be tested out on a turntable near the back, along with antiques, taxidermied animals and… Rook Roasters coffee, for a dedicated early-morning clientele.

“We had a guy who was coming twice a day for a while,” Jeff Ogiba, one of the shop’s owners, told the Times. “We have a young regular who’s 11 or 12 and always comes in asking for Pink Floyd, the old-timers looking for jazz, and everyone in between.”

Ogiba, along with co-owner Sommer Xavier Santoro, say they encourage lingering and browsing through the stacks of records.
