Sokol Bros. Building Sold for $3.3M

251-255 Columbia Street has been sold to a developer, though no plans for the building have been announced.

The building that housed Sokol Bros. Furniture Co. for 60 years has been sold for $3.3 million, according to Brownstoner.

The blog reports that the building, at 251-255 Columbia Street, was sold to Columbia Street Development LLC. The ground floor has been cleared out, and the blog also says that the upper floors appear to be empty. Brownstoner’s Emily Nonko is betting that the building will be transformed into luxury apartments.

Sokol Bros closed in late October, when owner Michael Sokol decided to retire after . The store originally opened around 1950, when Sokol’s father and uncle had set up their shop on Columbia Street, the main thorofare at the time. When they retired, Michael Sokol stepped in.

"Did they want me to take it over? No. I'm sure my father would have liked for me to be a doctor!" Sokol told Patch last December. "I was just always here, and I liked the store a lot. It was home to me."
