With Huge Rent Increase, Michael's Shoe Repair May Pack Up
The longtime cobbler will not be able to afford the rent doubling, and may move out of Carroll Gardens.
has been cobbling shoes for close to two decades in Carroll Gardens, but owner Michael Davidov may be forced to move out of the neighborhood due to a huge rent increase on his shop, says Pardon Me For Asking.
The building that Davidov’s shop residents in, 319 Smith Street, recently sold for $1.2 million, says the blog, and the new landlord has doubled the shoe repair shop’s rent from $2,700 to $5,400.
Davidov’s lease is up in November, and he is currently looking for a smaller space in the neighborhood, though he is not confident that he can stay, says the blog.

In addition to cobbler services, Michael’s also does jacket and watch repair, as well as shoe shines. The shop also carries some retail items, like handbags, socks, shoelaces and insoles.
