2 Sheds Gutted In Eastport Fire: Officials

The sheds, located behind a home in Eastport, were fully engulfed in flames, officials say.

EASTPORT, NY — Firefighters tackled a structure fire in Eastport Wednesday, officials said.

According to the Eastport Fire Department, a call came in at 10 a.m. about the fire on Old Country Road; Second Assistant Chief Steve Schaefer was the first Eastport volunteer on scene. He reported that two sheds behind a home were fully involved.

No injuries were reported, officials said.

The department responded with two engines and a tanker, fire officials said. They first used a deck gun to get water on the sheds and then laid one two-and-a-half inch hose and two two-inch hoses to attack the fires, using both water and foam, the Eastport Fire Department said.

Eastport was helped at the scene by the Westhampton Beach Fire Department and the East Moriches Fire Department. Westhampton Beach sent two chiefs and two engines and East Moriches responded with two chiefs and an engine, officials said.

The Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance was also on scene and the Manorville Fire Department stood standby at the the Eastport firehouse. The Eastport Fire Department’s fire police and Southampton Town Police shut down Old Country Road in both directions for the duration of the incident, officials said.

After the fires had been extinguished volunteers spent another hour in overhaul, pulling down portions of the sheds looking for and extinguishing residual pockets of
fire, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Southampton Town fire marshal.
