YAPHANK, NY — A Ridge man was convicted after robbing a Yaphank gas station at gunpoint, Suffolk County District Attorney's Office announced on Wednesday.
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said Marion Maupin, 33, was convicted on April 28 after a jury trial heard before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei. The SCDA's office said based on his prior convictions, Maupin faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
Maupin was convicted after the following charges: first-degree robbery, a class B violent felony; second-degree robbery, a class C violent felony; second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C violent felony; and third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, the SCDA's office said.
According to the SCDA's office, based on the evidence established at trial, on January 24, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Maupin and Raiquan Davis, 28, of Coram, entered a Shell gas station in Yaphank wearing hoodies and masks. Maupin pointed a loaded firearm at the clerk's head, demanded money, and stole money from the register, while Davis acted as the lookout by the door, the SCDA's office said.
They fled the gas station together in a white Cadillac, the SCDA's office said. Officers observed their car in Bellport and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Maupin and Davis did not stop and led officers on a high-speed pursuit, the SCDA's office said. The pursuit lasted approximately 15 minutes at points, driving more than 100 miles per hour, the SCDA's office said.
"This defendant pointed a loaded gun at a gas station clerk’s head during the commission of this crime, and he did it with two prior felony convictions already on his record," DA Tierney said.
Maupin and Davis fled the Cadillac while the car was still in motion, and threw a firearm into a yard before the car crashed into a telephone pole in front of a home daycare, the SCDA's office said.
According to the SCDA's office, they tried to flee on foot, but were arrested in the daycare's rear yard. Law enforcement later recovered the firearm that was thrown and determined it to be loaded and operable – and "consistent with the firearm used during the robbery," the SCDA's office said.
Maupin has past convictions – in 2013, he was sentenced to three years in prison after second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon, the SCDA's office said. In 2019, he was sentenced to five years in prison after he was convicted after second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon, the SCDA's office said.
Maupin is due back in court for sentencing on May 28, 2026, and he is being represented by Keith O'Halloran, Esq., the SCDA's office said.
According to the SCDA's office, the case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Amanda B. Scheier and Kieran R.
Rogers of the Major Crime Bureau, and the investigation was conducted by the Suffolk County Police Department’s Sixth Squad. Further investigative assistance was provided by Lisa
Lombardo and Mike Morena of the District Attorney's Tech Services Unit and Detective Investigator John Warner, the SCDA's office said.
