EASTPORT, NY — It takes a village: A police officer, paramedic and EMT all teamed up to help deliver a baby in a vehicle in Eastport early Tuesday, police said.
According to Suffolk County police, the birth took place oni southbound County Road 51 at 4:13 a.m.
A Suffolk County police officer, and a paramedic and EMT from East Moriches Community Ambulance assisted a mother in delivering her baby, police said.
Police responded to a 911 call found a woman in active labor in the passenger seat of a Nissan Pathfinder parked on the side of the roadway, police said.
Seventh Precinct Officer Amanda Brisson arrived and assisted the mom to prepare for delivery in the vehicle, police said.
When East Moriches Community Ambulance arrived, paramedic Steven Diamantopoulos and EMT Ben Cohen took over and successfully delivered a baby girl, police said.
The mother, 22, of Riverhead, and baby girl were transported in good condition by East Moriches Community Ambulance, driven by Origen Symes, to Stony Brook University Hospital for further evaluation, police said.
