1. 4 people rescued after boat hits sandbar near Moriches Inlet (news12.com) — A boat returning from a fishing trip ran aground on a sandbar near Moriches Inlet, prompting a multi-agency response led by the Center Moriches Fire Department. Local marine units and the U.S. Coast Guard helped safely remove three of the four people aboard as weather worsened, while the captain stayed with the vessel to await towing, and no injuries were reported.
2. Man Struck On LIE After Getting Out Of Car; Driver Charged: Police (patch.com) — A 27-year-old Center Moriches man was seriously injured after his car hit the median on the Long Island Expressway in Melville and he was struck while checking the damage, police said. Two men in another vehicle were then arrested on drug and driving charges. Residents may see related police activity and traffic delays near Exit 50.
3. Mastic Mourns Fire Service Legend (southshorepress.com) — Services in Center Moriches have just honored Rudolph "Rudy" Sunderman Sr., the longtime Mastic fire chief and commissioner whose six decades of volunteer work shaped local emergency services. His legacy now spans multiple generations of Sundermans serving in fire and ambulance roles, and many neighbors are reflecting on his deep impact across Mastic and nearby communities.
4. Roundup: Soccer, volleyball, field hockey and badminton scores (newsday.com) — Center Moriches girls soccer dropped a tight 1–0 decision to Bayport-Blue Point, despite 20 saves from goalkeeper Erin Redding in Suffolk III play. The roundup also highlights other Long Island soccer, volleyball, field hockey and badminton results, giving local fans a quick look at how neighboring schools are performing early in the season.
