Center Moriches High School Recognized as Unified Champion School

Center Moriches High School has been recognized as a National Unified Champion School, receiving the school national banner recognition from Special Olympics for its commitment to inclusion and collaboration.

To celebrate the achievement, the school unveiled its new National Unified Champion School banner prior to the basketball game against Southampton.

“This recognition reflects the welcoming and inclusive culture we strive to create every day at Center Moriches High School,” Principal Mrs. Marissa Mangogna said. “Our students and staff continuously demonstrate compassion, leadership, and teamwork, and we are incredibly proud to be recognized as a National Unified Champion School.”

A Special Olympics Unified Champion School fosters an inclusive school climate and promotes meaningful opportunities for students of all abilities to learn, lead, and grow together. Schools receiving national banner recognition have successfully met 10 national standards of excellence established by Special Olympics and education leaders nationwide. The standards focus on Special Olympics Unified Sports, inclusive youth leadership, and whole-school engagement.

“This honor is a testament to the incredible work taking place throughout our district to ensure every student feels valued, supported, and connected,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ricardo Soto said. “We are proud of our students, staff, and families for embracing inclusion and creating opportunities that bring our school community together.”
