Center Moriches Middle School Students Volunteer At Local Animal Shelter

The Center Moriches Middle School Yoga and Art clubs joined for a meaningful day of service at Bideawee Pet Adoption Shelter, where students used their creativity and compassion to support animals in need.

“Our students approached this opportunity with so much enthusiasm and compassion,” said club advisor Renee DiMeo. “They truly understood that even small acts of kindness, like creating these bandanas, can help animals feel loved and noticed while they wait for their forever homes. I was incredibly proud of the care and dedication they showed throughout the day.”

During the visit, students painted colorful “Adopt Me” bandanas for dogs at the shelter and in foster care. The handmade bandanas are designed to help the dogs stand out to potential adopters and increase their chances of finding loving forever homes. Through the project, students combined artistic expression with community service, demonstrating a strong commitment to helping local animals and making a positive difference beyond the classroom.

In addition to creating the bandanas, students toured the adoption center, spent time visiting with cats in the shelter’s cat room, and met Duke, an energetic one-year-old puppy currently available for adoption. The hands-on experience gave students a deeper understanding of animal rescue efforts and the importance of volunteerism within the community.

“This experience was such a wonderful reflection of the character of our students,” said Principal Melissa Reggio. “They volunteered their time to help animals in need, and in doing so, demonstrated empathy, creativity, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the community. We are so proud of the way they represented our school.”
