Center Moriches Red Devils Wrap Dominant Baseball Season

Team Takes Home Suffolk County and Long Island Championship Titles

The Center Moriches Red Devils completed one of the most successful baseball seasons in recent school history, finishing with a 20-4 record and claiming both the Suffolk County Class B and the Long Island Class B championships—the program's first Long Island title since 2022. Despite falling to Chester in a rain-delayed New York State Class B Final Four game, the District is proud of the hard work and dedication from the team.

The Red Devils started their run to the championship with a two-game sweep of Babylon to secure the Suffolk County title. The Center Moriches’s team won Game 1 with an impressive 5-0 shutout before closing out the series with a 3-1 victory in Game 2. Sophomore right-hander Alex Foster earned the win in Game 2, delivering five strong innings with six strikeouts. Richie Roberts sealed the championship with two scoreless innings, striking out three batters. Jack Cressy provided the offensive highlight of the series with a towering home run measured at 361 feet over the right-centerfield wall. JT Bonventre and Luke Rebore-Costanzo each contributed a Run Batted In (RBI) in the victory.

Riding a seven-game winning streak, the Red Devils shut out Oyster Bay with a score of 4-0 at the Middle Country Athletic Complex in Selden to claim the Long Island Class B title. Dan Gilroy delivered one of the finest pitching performances of the season, retiring the first 10 batters and carrying a perfect game into the fourth inning before finishing with an 11- strikeout, three- hit, no- walk complete-game shutout.

The team carried their momentum upstate to Binghamton University, where the Red Devils faced Chester in the state Class B semifinal. Center Moriches struck first, scoring twice in the first inning, but despite leading 2-0 through three innings, Chester ultimately won the game with a score of 5-2. The Red Devils finished their season with a 20-4 record.

“Congratulations to our baseball team and coaching staff on an incredible season that culminated in Suffolk County and Long Island Class B Championships,” Dr. Ricardo Soto, Superintendent of Schools, said. “Their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence made our entire school community proud, and their accomplishments will be remembered as one of the finest seasons in program history.”
