Man Dies In East Moriches Crash Wednesday Afternoon: Police

The single-vehicle crash took place in East Moriches, police say.

EAST MORICHES, NY — A man died in an East Moriches crash Wednesday afternoon, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the single-vehicle crash took place at about 2:50 p.m. on Montauk Highway near Bay Avenue.

Ralph Mims, 48, of Central Islip, was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon westbound on Montauk Highway when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail near Bay Avenue, police said.

Mims was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
