Peconic Bay Medical Center adds Seventh Operating Room and New Robot
Second da Vinci Surgical System Will Help Minimize Risk of Infection, Reduce Scarring and Shorten Recovery Time
Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) announced today that it has added a seventh operating room and purchased a new da Vinci XI Surgical System that will help expand minimally invasive surgical procedures. This allows PBMC to provide healthcare access to more people in Suffolk County.
“As the premier destination for healthcare services in Eastern Suffolk County, Peconic Bay Medical Center has seen an increase in the number of patients coming to the medical center for their surgeries,” said PBMC Executive Director Dr. Amy E. Loeb. “The additions of the new operating room and da Vinci surgical system will allow us to increase our surgical capacity, matching the needs of our growing community.”
The da Vinci Surgical System is state-of-the-art surgical technology that matches the skills of the board certified, and fellowship trained doctors. While the surgeon is performing the surgery, the da Vinci Surgical System translates the surgeon's hand movements in real-time using tiny instruments that move like a human hand but provide a greater range of motion. The da Vinci Surgical System also gives doctors access to 3D, high-definition views of the surgical area magnified 10 times the human eye, making a more localized procedure possible and allowing the surgeon to operate through fewer incisions. This minimizes the risk of infection, causing less scarring and pain to the patient, and shortening the time of recovery.

Peconic Bay Medical Center recently received a Surgical Review Corporation accreditation as a Robotic Surgery Center of Excellence, and now has two da Vinci Surgical Systems.
“This second da Vinci XI Surgical Robot will allow for minimally invasive surgeries with flexible configurations,” said Dr. Agostino Cervone, Director of Robotic Surgery at PBMC. “This technology couples the precision and flexibility of a machine with the know-how and skill of an experienced surgeon. It is a tool that mimics the directions of the surgeon. I am excited to make this surgical tool available to our patients, aligning PBMC’s technological capabilities with the talent of our extraordinary team of surgeons.”
