Peconic Bay Medical Center Foundation and William Ris Gallery Team Up
PBMC Foundation and William Ris Gallery Support Advancements in East End Breast Health
Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) Foundation announced that the William Ris Gallery in Jamesport will hold an exclusive fundraising event on August 25 called the Artful Affair to support the hospital’s breast health program. Guests will be able browse and purchase pieces of the gallery's fine-art collection featuring renowned local artists, and a portion of the proceeds will go towards the purchase of an intraoperative breast specimen imaging system for tissue, which is located in the operating room and produces high-quality imaging of specimens that can be evaluated by the surgeon.
“The Artful Affair event is an opportunity to support the health of residents of Eastern Suffolk County while appreciating the wonderful art of some of our local community members,” said Dr. Amy E. Loeb, Executive Director of PBMC. “It's a great way to combine the arts and sciences, showing that we are all working towards maintaining our healthy and beautiful community.”
Award-winning artists across an array of disciplines will be featured at the art gallery. Art styles include photorealism, multi-media collage paintings, photography, sculptures, jewelry, landscape and still life paintings, abstract paintings and more.

“The purchase of a specimen imaging system will be a great step in improving women's healthcare in Eastern Suffolk County,” said Susan Lee, MD, Chief of Breast Surgery at PBMC. “With advanced imaging like this, the system will allow surgeons a closer look at breast tissue, potentially optimize cosmesis by targeting the specific additional areas that need to be removed, decrease operation time, and decrease the likelihood of needing a second surgery for positive margins. This system will revolutionize breast surgery at Peconic Bay Medical Center.”
Featured artists will include: renowned photo-realistic painter and Southold resident Nick Cordone; Gia Gorton, a ten-time cover artist for Dan’s Papers and was awarded the 2011 Best of the Best Cover Award; and painter Peter Galasso, whose work has also appeared in the Nassau County Museum of Art. Other artists to be featured include photorealist Charles Wildbank; collage artist Cheryl Molnar, painter Carl Scorza, multi-disciplinary artist Jane Kirkwood, print-maker Chris Ann Ambery and painter/sculptor Jeff Muhs.
