Truck Hits LIRR Overpass, Flips Into Oncoming Lane: Police
The driver was injured and taken to the hospital, officials say..

CENTER MORICHES, NY — A truck overturned after slamming into a Long Island Rail Road overpass Wednesday morning, injuring the driver, officials said.
According to the Center Moriches Fire Department, the crash took place just after 10 a.m. on Montauk Highway just west of Wilcox Avenue at the LIRR overpass.
Upon arrival, first responders found a tractor on its side in the roadway; the truck, which was heading west on Montauk Highway struck the 11-foot, 6-inch LIRR overpass and flipped over into the oncoming lane, the fire department said.

While firefighters worked to contain a fuel spill and secure the tractor trailer, EMS providers evaluated the driver of the truck who was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
Montauk Highway was shut down for several hours while crews work to upright the truck and remove it from the roadway, the Center Moriches Fire Department said.

Suffolk County Police said the driver, who was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, was issued a summons for disregarding the clearance signage.
The site has seen previous crashes, including one in 2019.
