Woman, Dog Rescued From Marsh

Rescuers threw a rope to the woman to pull her out and then saved her dog Charlie, police say.

EAST MORICHES, NY — A woman and her dog were rescued from a marsh in East Moriches Saturday, police said.

Two Suffolk County Police officers, as well as members of the East Moriches Fire Department, rescued the woman and her dog after a 911 call came in at 2:07 p.m reporting that both were stuck in a marsh at the end of Bay Street, police said.

Officer Michael Pitts and Officer Harrison Dow, as well as East Moriches Fire Department Assistant Chief Robert Kanas threw a rope out to Paula Eagle, 68, of East Moriches, instructed her to tie it around her waist and pulled her out of the marsh, police said.

After the woman was rescued, members of the East Moriches Fire Department rescued her dog, Charlie, police said. Eagle and her dog were not injured, police said.
