Child on Bike Struck by Car on Long Island

He was airlifted due to the extent of his injuries, fire officials say.

CENTER MORICHES, NY — A young male bicyclist was struck by a car in Center Moriches Tuesday, fire officials said.

According to the Center Moriches Fire Department, at 5:41 p.m., the Center Moriches Fire Department Ambulance was called to the Tall Oaks Apartments complex on Moriches Middle Island Road to respond to a male youth who was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle.

Due to the nature of his injuries Suffolk County aviation was called to transport the youth to the trauma center at Stony Brook University Hospital, the fire department said.

Center Moriches Fire Department stood by at the Center Moriches High School with an engine while the SCPD helicopter landed in rear field, fire officials said.
