Leaders say strong test scores, STEM-focused instruction, and community partnerships are driving demand, but they must find larger facilities within Central Islip to keep adding grades and eventually launch middle and high school programs.
   

• Mastic Beach man shot in leg in dispute outside Neighborhood Road gas station, cops say (greaterlongisland.com) — A man was shot in the leg during an argument outside a Mastic Beach gas station early Sunday, and police say the victim's injuries are not life-threatening. Officers arrested a 48-year-old suspect, who is being held at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip, tying the case to the local justice system.
