Police: Manorville man charged with drug-impaired driving after LIE crash (riverheadlocal.com) — A Manorville man and his passenger are set to be arraigned at Central Islip's First District Court after a Long Island Expressway crash in Melville that seriously injured a pedestrian. Police say both men possessed narcotics, and the driver faces drug-impaired driving and multiple drug charges, while the pedestrian was hospitalized with serious injuries.
3. Suffolk District Attorney's Office adds 17 new ADAs (libn.com) — Central Islip's First District Court will soon see 17 new assistant district attorneys handling violations and misdemeanors, which could affect how local cases move through the system. The new hires, trained through an intensive program, come from a range of East Coast law schools and are expected to bolster Suffolk County's already-strong public safety record.
4. Former postal worker convicted in $900K disability fraud after videos contradicted claims (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A federal jury in Central Islip convicted a former postal worker of wire fraud for collecting more than $900,000 in disability benefits while allegedly exaggerating her injuries. Prosecutors said surveillance showed her doing everyday physical tasks that contradicted medical claims, and she now faces up to 20 years in prison and significant financial penalties.
