NEW YORK CITY — A soaking storm is set to drench New York City overnight on Wednesday, with forecasters warning of heavy rain and near-summerlike humidity before a breezy, brighter end to the week.
Wednesday will stay mostly cloudy and mild, with temperatures hovering around 63 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
A round of steady, at times heavy rain is expected to sweep in Wednesday night, with a 90 percent chance of precipitation, forecasters at the National Weather Service said.
The rain totals will be between a half and three-quarters of an inch, the National Weather Service predicts, but according to the New York City Department of Emergency Management, the totals could climb to as much as an inch. Either way, it will be enough to leave streets and sidewalks soaked by the Thursday morning commute.
According to the New York City Department of Emergency Management, the heaviest rain will be between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m.
The storm begins to wind down early Thursday, with lingering showers possible into the morning before skies gradually brighten. By afternoon, clouds will start to break, and temperatures will rebound into the mid-60s, the National Weather Service predicts.
Behind the system, a gusty northwest wind kicks in, clearing things out just in time for a crisp Thursday night and a sunny, breezy Friday.
On Friday, highs will settle back into the low 60s, with occasional gusts pushing past 20 mph — a noticeable shift from the soggy midweek stretch, forecasters said.
