CENTRAL PARK, NY — A 23-year-old man jumped into a body of water in Central Park while trying to escape the police on Monday afternoon, New York City Police Department officials said.
According to the NYPD, police were pursuing the man on foot while investigating a larceny at 4:54 p.m. when the man threw himself into the Harlem Meer, a tranquil body of water near West 110th Street and Fifth Avenue.
EMS officials fished the 23-year-old out of the water and took him to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition, police said.
Video posted to the Citizen app shows several police officers gathered on the bank of the Harlem Meer, as a man is pulled from the water.
