CENTRAL PARK, NY — Police are investigating Monday after a woman was sexually assaulted at knifepoint in Central Park over the weekend, New York City Police Department officials said.
According to the NYPD, the 39-year-old woman was near East 66th Street and Fifth Avenue before 8:30 p.m. when a man approached her, pulled out a knife, and sexually assaulted her, police said.
The attacker has not been arrested yet, police said, and the woman was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital in stable condition.
"I am horrified by the rape of a woman at knifepoint near East 66th Street and Fifth Avenue last night," Councilmember Virginia Maloney said. "I run in Central Park myself. Women deserve to feel safe there, at any hour."
This attack comes less than a week after a 32-year-old woman was robbed and attacked by three masked men in Central Park.
There have been four rapes in Central Park this year, up from three in 2025, according to the NYPD's crime statistics.
