Bruce Willis Poses for Photo With NYPD Officer in Central Park

Bruce Willis' breakout role was NYPD detective John McClane in 1988's "Die Hard."

CENTRAL PARK, NY — Yippee-ki-yay. Movie star Bruce Willis was spotted Friday in Central Park posing for a photo with an NYPD officer in a show of support for law enforcement.

Willis knows a little something about the NYPD, in fact he might owe them a little something for his stardom. Willis' breakout role was that of NYPD Detective John McClane in 1988's "Die Hard." Willis' performance as McClane reinvented the action movie star as blue-collar guy dropped into a bad situation that prevails against the odds. It was a far cry from the buff-dude characters of Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone, the decade's biggest action stars.

The role cemented Willis as a legit movie star, and pretty much every depiction of a tough, wisecracking cop since is a ripoff of McLane. Willis went on to reprise the role of McClane in four sequels, because those geniuses in Hollywood felt the need to squeeze every single penny out of a classic movie. Although "Die Hard with a Vengeance" did give us Samuel L. Jackson saying, "Don't f*ck with me or I'll shove a lightning bolt up you a**."
