Cop Sues City After Scooter Crash In Central Park

The officer's lawsuit claims that Central Park's poor conditions caused him to crash his scooter and suffer injuries in the line of duty.

CENTRAL PARK, NY — An NYPD officer is suing the city for suffering injuries in the line of duty when he crashed his scooter in Central Park in hot pursuit of some ne'er-do-well kids.

Carmelo Fargas, 32, claims that New York City is liable for his injuries because his scooter crash was caused by the poor land conditions in Central Park, according to a lawsuit acquired by the Daily News. The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, said that Fargas crashed his two-wheel scooter on a patch of “unlevel, gapped, depressed (and) uneven,” land on Sept. at 2:30 a.m near Central Park West and 85th St., the Daily News reported.

After the crash Fargas required surgery to repair a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee, which left him "totally disabled for a period of time," according to the report.
