Thunderstorms, Heat Spike In Store For NYC, Forecasters Say
New York City is under a "marginal risk" for severe weather, forecasters said.
NEW YORK CITY — New York City is bracing for its hottest temperatures of the year so far, along with a chance of thunderstorms, according to the latest forecast.
According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are in the cards for the Big Apple Tuesday afternoon into the evening, with the more severe weather targeting the suburbs north and west of NYC.
As of Tuesday morning, New York City is under a “marginal risk” for severe weather due to thunderstorms, particularly from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service said. This article will be updated if the risk level increases.

Wind gusts could blow up to 20 miles per hour, forecasters said.

There's another chance for rain showers on Wednesday and Friday in New York City, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Otherwise, the temperatures will feel like summer in the high-80s and 70s all week, challenging historical averages and record-highs.
"The peak of the warmth in most places across the Northeast is on Wednesday afternoon," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Matt Benz. "Even areas right along the water can expect temperatures well above the historic average for mid-April on Wednesday."
The average temperature in April for New York City is in the mid-60s, according to forecasters. The NHS predicts that temperatures will get as warm as 25-30 degrees above average.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 86. South wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. 20 percent chance of thunderstorms.
Tuesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph.
Wednesday: A slight chance of showers between 2pm and 5pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Wednesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a chance of showers between 11pm and 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
Thursday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65.
Friday: A 40 percent chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 78.
Friday night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58.
