Founded by Denise Tran in 2011, Bun Mee was inspired by Tran's Vietnamese heritage, her mother's recipes and New York's sandwich culture.

The restaurant offers made-to-order bánh mì alongside rice and noodle bowls, salads, appetizers, sides, desserts and specialty drinks.

Signature items include the Classic Combo with lemongrass pork and pâté, Ribeye Steak Dip served with pho broth, Crispy Fried Chicken Bun, Salt & Pepper Garlic Fries and a Vietnamese coffee topped with soft whip.

"The McClave family embodies everything Bun Mee was built on: their Vietnamese roots through Nam and Huy, their strong family bond, and the way they work together feels so familiar to my own story," Denise Tran, Founder and CEO, told Patch.

"Bun Mee's story is heavily rooted in food and family, so seeing those same values reflected in the McClaves makes this partnership incredibly special."

The 28-seat, 2,200-square-foot restaurant is currently open for dine-in and pickup Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with delivery and catering planned for the future. Its design draws inspiration from the street culture of Saigon, incorporating Vietnamese graphics, vintage-inspired artwork, exposed brick, neon signage and other colorful touches.

For its opening week, October 8–14, Bun Mee will donate a portion of proceeds to Hot Bread Kitchen, a New York nonprofit that provides culinary training, job placement and support for food entrepreneurs.

The NYC location is operated by the McClave family, including John McClave, Nam Hoang, their son Egan and Nam's brother Huy. The family plans to open two additional Bun Mee locations in New York City.
