10 Commack Students Chosen to Attend Harvard Research Conference

Commack HS Students Attend and Compete at HSRC Hosted by Harvard

COMMACK, NEW YORK—Recently, 10 Commack High School students in grades 9-12 were selected to attend the 2021 Harvard Science Research Conference (HRSC). The HSRC is a two-day conference for exceptional high school students, hosted by Harvard University, that consists of a series of speakers, workshops, and mentoring sessions designed to encourage and promote interest in the natural sciences as well as research.

In order to participate in the conference, students must apply and are selected to participate after a competitive process. Commack High School students who were selected include Lakxshanna Raveendran, Flora Lin, Zeynep Taşoğlu, Alisha Khan, Juliette Amram, Mehek Sawhney, Manya Khatri, Farah Raufi, Ishana Chadha, and Jin Ko.

As part of the conference, an Innovation Challenge took place and three Commack students, Mehek Sawhney, Manya Khatri and Ishana Chadha were winners as part of the research team working on the “Cryogenic Heart Preservation” project. Commack’s Zeynep Taşoğlu’s study also won for the “Using Machine Learning for Schizophrenia Episodes” project.

Winners have their submissions published on the Harvard College Undergraduate Research Association (HCURA) website and receive certificates of recognition. To view the winning research presentations, visit https://www.hcura.org/hsrc-innovation-challenge-winners.
