Commack Students Competed in the Fifth Annual Idol Semifinals
Commack high school and middle school students competed in the semifinals on Friday in order to qualify for finals in February.
Forty students from and participated in the fifth annual Commack Idol semifinals on Friday night at .
Twenty students from each school competed and at the end of the night, only 20 moved on to the finals, held in February.
"The students love this," Community Relations Director, Debbie Virga, said. "They love the atmosphere and the whole setup. They feel like they're on stage auditioning for American Idol."

The event gets its name from the television show and the company that provides the atmosphere for the event, Music Idol Entertainment. They set up an elaborate stage for the students, equipped with bright neon lights and two big screen television projectors.
"It is not just the kids but their parents and classmates who are also amazed by the whole thing. We like to think of it as a huge community event," Virga said.

Ashley Reyes, tenth grader, did a rendition of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance said she hasn't remembered having so much fun in awhile.
"We practice for like a month for this competition. It is something we all look forward to," Reyes said.
