Commack Toys R Us No Longer Closing

The store made the list of a few stores that have been saved from the mass nationwide closures announced last week.

COMMACK, NY - The Commack Toy R Us store has been saved after court records showed the company planned to shut down four Long Island stores and 182 locations nationwide.

Last week, records showed that the toy retailer was shuttering about 20 percent of its stores in the country with mass closures early next month.

The Long Island stores to make the list included Bohemia, Commack, Massapequa Park and Westbury.

In New York, the Glens Falls store was also saved.

David Brandon, chairman and CEO of the toy retailer, said the brand is reinventing itself, and that requires some "tough decisions about our priorities and focus.

"The reinvention of our brands requires that we make tough decisions about our priorities and focus," Brandon said in a letter posted on the company's website late Tuesday.

The moves come four months after Toys R Us filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection amid declining sales and climbing debt.
