Crash On Sagtikos State Parkway Injures 4: NY State Police

A Rockville Centre woman severed both legs when she was hit by another car near Islip, state police said.

ISLIP, NY — A Brooklyn man is accused of driving while intoxicated after four people were injured in a crash on Sagtikos State Parkway near Islip shortly after midnight Saturday, according to New York State Police.

Officers responded to an area just south of exit S1E after receiving multiple calls about a crash, state police said in a news release. According to investigators, a 2012 Honda Civic driven by Daijonee Vanderveer, 36, of Rockville Centre, was traveling southbound on the parkway when her vehicle stopped in the right lane due to a flat tire.

According to police, Vanderveer got out of the car and walked to the back of the vehicle to open the trunk. As she did, a 2012 Honda Civic driven by Kevin Rosasdaqui, 25, of Brooklyn, New York, was traveling southbound in the right lane when he struck Vanderveer and rear-ended her car.

The impact of the crash severed both of Vanderveer’s legs, police said.

Vanderveer was taken to Stony Brook Medical Center where she underwent surgery. According to police, she is in critical but stable condition.

Two passengers from Rosasdaqui's vehicle were taken to South Shore University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A third passenger was uninjured, police said.

Rosasdaqui was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said. The crash remains under investigation.
