Gas Bills Outrageous ? Did You Opt Out of Brookhaven's Community Choice Aggregation Energy Program

allowing the Town to buy natural gas for residents and small businesses within its borders. You were automatically opted into the program.

In 2022 Brookhaven's Town Board took the first steps to join the CCA program, which was created by the New York Public Service Commission in April 2016.

Administered by Good Energy LP, it offers a bulk purchasing agreement – the Town purchases a large amount of energy for a pool of residents and small businesses. Residents are not required to be part of the CCA, do not have to sign a contract to join and can leave the program at any time without early termination or exit fees. However you must opt out through a separate action.

This removes National Grid from serving as a gas supplier. Delivery through the utilities' system remains constant. Here is a customer's story. " Last year in February our gas bill went from about 200.00 a month to 450.00 for one month . I compared the bills for the prior 12 months and discovered 2 lines on the bill. One amount from National Grid and one from another company. After a 30 min phone call with this other company they finally disclosed that the Town of Brookhaven had contracted with them on my behalf and if I didn’t want them I was supposed to have taken the steps to “opt out”.
