Insignia Parking Complaints, Hess Gas Station on Town's Agenda

Residents concerns about Insignia Steakhouse's parking and proposed plans for a Hess gas station in Commack will take the spotlight at Smithtown Town Board meeting Thursday evening.
Smithtown Town officials will hold several public hearings and make several key votes at the Town Board meeting at 7 p.m. in the Eugene A. Cannataro Senior Citizen Center. The town's water board meeting initally scheduled for 7 p.m. was cancelled to provide residents with additional time.
Insignia Steakhouse owner Anthony Scotto will present his case for an area variance to legalize a gravel parking lot already constructed behind the restaurant without the necessary permits.

Residents have spoken at several town meetings complaining about loud noise coming from Insignia and headlights from cars so close to their home is keeping them awake. Others expressed concerns about potential flooding given the area's high water table.
Smithtown town officials are also expected to cast their vote on a zoning application from the Hess Corporation, who hopes to build a. A similar application by the same company was denied two years ago.

Smithtown Supervisor Patrick Vecchio said he did not vote for the application two years ago, and had heard Feb. 23 nothing to change his mind. Vecchio stated he would vote against Hess Corporation's proposed plans.
