Heroes: Verso scored the Cougars' first goal in three games and brought some much-needed enthusiasm and confidence to the squad. The score brought Commack to within 2-1 of Sachem North, but that was as far as the team would get.
Commack kept the score close behind the goaltending of Sarah Prunty and Erin Morrissey. But the team's best defensive play may have come midway through the first half when Erin Muller knocked down a shot on goal to keep the Arrows off the scoreboard.

Unfortunately for Commack, the Arrows put in a rebound off Prunty to take a 1-0 lead with 13:44 left in the first half, and scored their second goal with 13:24 left in the second.
The Quote: "We're still waiting for it to click," said Commack coach Kristy Wolgemuth.
Before Verso's shot, the Arrows had more or less stifled Commack's offense. Verso had the team's best shot opportunity all day and made the most of it. But with less than 2:00 in the game, there was not enough time left to try to complete a comeback.
The Turning Point: Until Wednesday, every one of Sachem North's games had been a shutout, win or lose. So, when the Arrows scored first, they put the pressure on Commack.
The Cougars responded by having as many corners as the Arrows, and with extended forays in the offensive end. They also found out they can count on their defense to keep them close.
Who's Next: Commack hosts Sachem East on Friday at 4 p.m.
