Huntington, NY (March 19, 2015) – Throughout the month of February, the Huntington YMCA held the Lazy Man Triathlon, a four week fitness challenge for men and women in which participating members attempted to complete a triathlon over the course of 28 days. This month-long event brought the community together, promoted fitness and inspired healthy competition.
“The Lazy Man Triathlon was a fun way to be competitive,” said Anne Brigis, President and CEO of the YMCA of Long Island. “Completing a triathlon is an extremely difficult task and we hope those who participated felt a great sense of accomplishment at the end of the month.”
A traditional triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 12-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run. For the YMCA’s Lazy Man Triathlon, the swimming, running and biking could have been done indoors or outdoors, at the Y or any other location. For the 26.2-mile run, members were able to use treadmills in the gym, run outside or participate in classes including Kickboxing, Boot Camp, Zumba, Step and Cardio. Each 60 minute class was equivalent to 3 miles. For the biking portion, members were able to use stationary bikes or elliptical machines in the gym, bike outside or participate in group exercise cycling classes. Each 60 minute cycling class was equivalent to 15 miles.
