Man Charged In Suffolk Bank Robbery: Police

The man was dressed in women's clothing, a wig, and make-up, when he demanded cash, police say.

COMMACK, NY — The man accused of robbing a Commack bank while dressed as a woman has been arrested, Suffolk police said.

George Swanton, 62, of Oakdale, was arrested at 1:41 a.m. Monday, police said. He was charged with third-degree robbery and third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He is being held at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Swanton on Saturday entered Teachers Federal Credit Union, at 10 Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, around 11:30 a.m., police said. He handed a teller a note demanding cash, police said. The teller complied and Swanton drove away in a gray minivan westbound on Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, police said. Swanton was wearing a dark-colored wig, make-up, and dressed in women’s clothing, police said.
