Passenger Killed After Car Crashes Into Median On Parkway

A 37-year-old woman was killed in the single-car crash early Tuesday, police say.

COMMACK, NY - A passenger was killed after a car crashed into the median on the Sunken Meadow Parkway on Tuesday morning, according to State Police.

At about 2:38 a.m., a blue 2007 Honda Civic left the roadway while on the southbound Sunken Meadow Parkway sound of Jericho Turnpike in Commack, and struck several trees in the center median.

The only passenger, 37-year-old Maria Garcia, of Brentwood, was transported to Saint Catherine of Siena Hospital in Smithtown, where she died from her injuries.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges have not been filed at this time. State Police are requesting that anyone who may have information concerning the crash to call 631-756-3300.
