Sawmill Joins Stop & Shop Rewards Program

Sawmill PTA members and parents can donate points from their Stop & Shop purchases to aid in funding classroom activities.

Parents of Commack students at can donate money from their weekly Super Stop & Shop purchases to the school, according to Commack Union Free School District and the supermarket chain. 

Sawmill joined the A+ School Rewards program, sponsored by the l, in October and proceeds will be collected through March of 2011. 

Sawmill PTA President, Eileen Gaeta, said that proceeds from the program are given in the form of a check issued directly to the school. She said the money is then used by the teachers and administrators for many activities, most of which relate to arts.

Parents can sign-up for the program online, using the first three initials of their last name and the thirteen digit number on the back of their Super Stop & Shop rewards card. Members then select three schools to donate their points to, with certain items tagged in the store to allow parents to contribute bonus bucks to the school of their choice. 

This is the second year the program has been on Long Island, and across the Stop & Shop footprint, we will donate over $1 million nationwide, Amy Murphy director of communications for Stop & Shop, said.

It gives us a way to interact with the schools, and with our community, Murphy said. 

Gaeta said that the PTA ensures that all money is used for the children in the classrooms of the schools affiliated with the program.
