Stranger Alert Issued by Commack, Hauppauge Schools

Local parents of school-aged children are warned to be on high alert after a suspicious man attempted pick up a student at Hauppauge and East Islip on Friday. 

Commack and Hauppauge school officials sent notices to parents late Friday afternoon to be on high alert after the same situation played out at Hauppauge and East Islip. 

A man who identified himself to Hauppauge School officials as Abraham Lincoln visited Hauppauge Middle School early Friday morning looking to allegedly pick up his daughter, Reanna Belongi, wrote Hauppauge superintendent Patricia Sullivan-Kriss in a letter to parents. There is no student by that name enrolled in Hauppauge schools.

When the man was told his daughter did not attend Hauppauge schools, Sullivan-Kriss said he was seen leaving school property driving a light colored, four-door sedan. 

Hauppauge school officials immediately notified Suffolk County police of the situation. Police were asked to increase the number of patrols at dismissal time and in the neighborhoods. 

Commack school officials said they were contacted by police after reports were filed, according to the district's website. There is no student by the name Reanna Belongi enrolled at Commack schools. 

The suspected man is described only described as an African American male who was driving a light-colored, four-door sedan. 

Police have asked residents who see a man fitting the description performing any similar behaviors to immediately call 911.
