Swastika Found Drawn In Bench At Commack Park

COMMACK, NY - A swastika was found on a bench in Commack on Wednesday afternoon.

Suffolk Police responded to a call of the hateful graffiti found on Townline Road at 1:15 p.m.

Local resident Betty Cole said it was her daughter who discovered the writing on the bench at Sunshine Acres park while walking her dog.

"She was very disturbed by it as both her grandparents were holocaust survivors," Cole said.

In addition, Cole said that the "N" word was written next to to the swastika which "verified" it was intended to be hateful .

"She was upset but not shocked because sadly it is not new to Commack," she said. "As a high school student she came across swastika in the school and feels like I do the environment we live in today in America has produced more antisemitism and hate towards minorities ."

The two then reported the incident to police.
