“My message to residents, especially parents, is that this is no laughing matter," Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison said. "The department takes threats of violence, especially those involving schools, very seriously and we will thoroughly investigate all incidents brought to our attention. Following the recent mass shooting tragedies across the country, the department is encouraging parents to speak to their children about the ramifications of making threats of this nature.”

The Commack threat follows the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 children and two adults dead on May 24.

The teen is from Bay Shore and is not a student at the school, News 12 Long Island reported. The teen has a friend who attends Commack Middle School, police said.

In Suffolk, there have been 16 reported threats and two arrests made since the Uvalde shooting, the outlet said.

A 16-year-old was arrested on May 26 after he threatened a mass shooting at Bellport High School, police said.
