During this day, residents are encouraged to support their hometown businesses by shopping at local stores on Saturday, November 26.

Several organizations have joined the national campaign, founded by American Express in 2010, declaring the Saturday after Thanksgiving every year as Small Business Saturday, which is a day dedicated to supporting the small businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country during one of the busiest shopping times of the year.

According to American Express, in 2014 consumers spent an estimated $14.3 billion at independent merchants on Small Business Saturday.
