2 Stores Closed, Clerks Arrested, After Failing Inspection: PD

The 2 employees were charged with selling e-cigarettes and alcohol to minors, police say.

WYANDANCH, NY — Two store employees were arrested and charged on Thursday night, after police said they sold alcohol and e-cigarettes to minors during a State Liquor Authority inspection.

Ahmad Mushtaq, 56, an employee at BP gas station, located at 1501 Straight Path, was charged with sale of alcoholic beverage to a person under 21, police said.

Jamal Saleh Al Lahabi, 41, an employee at the Straight Path Discount convenience store, located at 1527 Straight Path, was charged with sale of e-cigarette to a person under 21, police said.

Both were issued field appearance tickets and will be arraigned at a later date, police said.

According to police, officers, Mushtaq, of North Bellmore, sold an alcoholic beverage to a person under the age of 21 at the BP gas station at about 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday. The business was issued 12 citations from the Town of Babylon fire marshal, two citations from the Town of Babylon plumbing inspector, and four other Babylon town code violation citations.

Al Lahabi, of the Bronx, sold an e-cigarette to a person under the age of 21 at the Straight Path Discount convenience store at about 8:05 p.m., police said. The business was issued nine citations from the Town of Babylon fire marshal, two citations from the Town of Babylon plumbing inspector, two citations from the Babylon town building inspector, and two other town code violation citations, police said.

Both businesses were placarded and closed by the Town of Babylon, police said.
