WYANDANCH, NY — Wyandanch Memorial High School has named Katia Pereira-Alvarado as valedictorian and Keiry Argueta as salutatorian for the Class of 2026.
Pereira-Alvarado has been deeply involved in academics, service, the arts and student leadership throughout her time at Wyandanch Memorial High School. She serves as secretary of the National Honor Society, vice president and treasurer of the Latinos Unidos Club, and is a member of the Art Club, Drama Club, Math Club, Science Olympiad team, Smart Scholars, drill team, color guard and physical fitness team.
She has also been active in Wyandanch’s Army Junior ROTC program, serving as a captain for two years. She currently holds the position of battalion executive officer.
Outside the classroom, Pereira-Alvarado has completed more than 400 community service hours as a volunteer.
She plans to attend Stony Brook University, where she will major in psychology on a pre-med track. Her goal is to attend medical school and become a pediatrician.
Argueta, the Class of 2026 salutatorian, also held several leadership roles at Wyandanch Memorial High School. She serves as treasurer of the National Honor Society and has been active in student government, serving as class vice president during her junior year and executive vice president during her senior year.
She is also a member of the varsity volleyball team and participated in Stony Brook University’s HOPE program.
Argueta joined Army Junior ROTC as a sophomore and rose to the role of battalion commander.
She will also attend Stony Brook University, where she plans to major in psychology on a pre-med track. Her goal is to pursue a career as an obstetrician/gynecologist.
