WEST BABYLON, NY — A West Babylon man was one of two people arrested Friday in connection with trying to sexually exploit children online, New York State Police said.
The arrests were the result of a coordinated operation over several days by Troop L's Computer Crime Unit, along with other members of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
The investigation used undercover investigators and advanced cyber investigative techniques to identify people, who used online platforms to communicate with whom they believed were minors for the purpose of arranging in-person meetings to engage in illegal sexual activity.
Edwin Antonio Sabillon Jr, 24, and Anik Conley-Das, 36, of Norwood, MA, were charged with second-degree attempted rape, attempted endangering the welfare of a child, and first-degree attempted disseminating indecent materials to a minor.
Further details were not released.
Sabillon pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Friday in First District Court in Central Islip, and his bail was set at $20,000, $40,000 insured bond, or $200,000 partially secured surety bond, online court records show.
He was represented by the Legal Aid Society, whose attorneys do not comment on cases outside of court.
He is due back in court on July 22.
Conley-Das also pleaded not guilty, and was released on bail without monetary conditions, pending his next court date on Aug. 3, court records show.
