• Turtle Dies After Being Found Tethered Underwater In Deer Park; $3K Reward Offered (patch.com) — Residents of Deer Park are being urged to help identify whoever tethered a yellow-bellied slider turtle inside a cage and submerged it in Geiger Park Lake, leading to the animal's death despite an initial rescue. Suffolk County SPCA has raised the reward to $3,000 for information, stressing that animal cruelty is a serious crime and asking anyone who saw suspicious activity at the lake to come forward.
   

• LI Man Drove On Drugs, Crashed Into Deer Park Home, Had Gun: Police (patch.com) — A car crashed into a Deer Park home on Nicholls Road early Sunday, but fortunately no one inside was hurt. Police say the 19-year-old driver from Amityville was impaired by drugs and later found with a handgun and high-capacity magazine, leading to multiple weapons and driving charges and an upcoming court appearance.
   

• Volleyball Recap: Tough Loss for Smithtown West (maxpreps.com) — Local volleyball fans can mark their calendars as Smithtown East is set to host Deer Park on Sept. 9 at 4:30 p.m., opening in-conference play. Smithtown East enters the match 1-0 after sweeping Smithtown West, while Deer Park will aim to spoil their early momentum on the Bulls' home court.
