Joined by Board of Education Vice President Latesha Walker and board trustee Yvonne Robinson, Dr. Talbert presented an overview on a variety of topics of interest to parents and the community including health and safety, graduation requirements, grade 3-8 assessment information, the proposed budget, future plans for expanded in-classroom instruction, the pending sewer connection project and a discussion on facilities needs to return pre-K students to the district.
Dr. Talbert introduced the district’s five districtwide initiatives which represent the priorities as determined by data analyzed by the administration: increase graduation rates; reduce chronic absenteeism; empower scholars to be socially just; promote reciprocal family engagement and address trauma for students and staff. She went on to share the district’s most recent We Are Rising – Points of Pride, and provided an update on COVID-19 statistics within the district noting that all health and safety protocols are being followed. Since September, less than 10% of staff have tested positive for COVID-19 and less than 1% of students have tested positive for the disease. At the end of the first Coffee Hour with the Superintendent, everyone was encouraged to join in again. Parents and Community are invited to email their questions and/or comments to ASKDRT@wufsd.net.
