Deer Park, N. Babylon Pothole Report

Where have you spotted potholes in the area?

Pothole season is here and likely to ramp up into full bloom as spring nears so we asked readers on our Facebook page to let us know where they have spotted major cracks in the road. Here's a few of the reported trouble spots:

  • Long Island Avenue
  • Route 231 near the Southern State
  • Lake Avenue and Deer Park Avenue
  • Weeks Road and Bluebell Lane

Town of Babylon officials say their Road Improvement Program aims to fix not just the worst roads, but also aging and failing roads in part to reduce the number of potholes that need to be addressed each year.

"The Town of Babylon’s approach to potholes has always been stay ahead of the problem," Deputy Town Supervisor Tony Martinez said. "We do this by investing in our roads year-round to prevent damage and save on long-term repair costs and by staging a 'Pothole Blitz' every year as the winter weather breaks - our inspectors comb every street of the Town searching for potholes so we can stay on top of the issue."

The annual Pothole Blitz usually starts in early March, but in the meantime, the Town says it remains committed to its policy of responding to any pothole complaint within 48 hours. A temporary "cold patch" is applied to potholes during the winter months.

"I encourage residents to call in any potholes they find to 311 and we will respond rapidly," Martinez said.
